Society demands thorough investigation
ITANAGAR, Mar 17: Tadar Abu Charitable Society has requested concern authorities to properly investigate into the mysterious death of one Tadar Lala. Late Lala, a 15 year old boy was found dead at railway over bridge, Doimukh on Sunday. The Society alleged that the dead body bore injury marks and in all probability he was attacked by some unknown miscreants leading to his death.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) strongly condemned the mysterious death of the 15 year old school going boy. ALSU called for transparent and prompt investigation so that the culprit(s) involved in the heinous crime are booked immediately. ALSU also conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family.
The union also condemned the ineffectiveness of concerned authority in handling the law and order problems in the state.

PASIGHAT, Mar 17: The women activists of Adi Baane Kebang (ABK), which has been taking up cudgels against opium cultivation in Siang belt reached to remote Komsing village on Sunday and destroyed large area of poppy cultivation.
The women activists with the help of local administration and GBs stepped in Komsing hills and destroyed about 4 hectares of poppy plants owned by one Tagom Taloh, a local villager. Reportedly, the joint team searched for opium cultivator Taloh but he was found absconding.
The woman activists led by Yalem Taga Burang later conducted an awareness meeting at Pangin Solung Ground and requested local PRI members and leading citizens to take strong action against the opium traders. The team also urged the village folk to join hand with ABK in its efforts to eradicate narcotic menace. She also appealed the local administration to take effective step against the opium cultivation in jungles.

BJP demands CBI inquiry into nun gang rape case
ITANAGAR, Mar 17: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded CBI inquiry into the nun gang rape case in Ranaghat under Nadia district in West Bengal.
Condemning the incident in its strongest term, the party in a release demanded that perpetrators of the crime must be brought to book and award them exemplary punishment.
The task has become much easier for police after appearance of the CCTV camera footage of the incident. But the criminals involved in the incident are still moving freely, the party said and demanded the West Bengal Government to arrest the culprits involved immediately instead of politicizing the whole episode.

NABARD workshops on Commodity Trading
ITANAGAR, Mar 17: A block level workshop on Commodity Trading for farmers was organized by NABARD Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd. (NABCONS) in collaboration with “AMYAA”, a local non governmental organization (NGO) at Diyun and Rajanagar of Changlang district today.
Assistant Project Managers of NABARD Kamal Roy explained to the farmers about commodity trade its main objective which includes price discovery and better price realization to farmers for their produces.
The farmers were taught session on “producer’s organizations” wherein they were recommended to form Farmers Clubs to avail project supports from NABARD.
The participants got their all doubts on commodity trading cleared by the NABARD officials during an interactive session at close of the programme.
The workshop was attended by representatives from various SHGs, farmers, panchayat members and producers from farming background.
USTM hosts journos’ interaction
GUWAHATI, Mar 17: The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) organized an interactive session among journalists from different parts of India where the scribes discussed about different aspects of Northeast those are reflected in the metro dailies.
The session titled ‘Journalists’ interface: Northeast versus rest of India’ was organized on March 15 inside the campus of USTM.
Over 250 journalists from various parts of the country, who were in the city to participate in the 123 Working Committee Meeting of Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) hosted by Assam Union of Working Journalists, joined in the discussion in presence of another 50 journalists from different parts of Assam and Northeast India.
The interactive session witnessed the discussion of various relevant issues pertaining to the region amongst the visiting journalists where the issue of ‘negligence in the national media about Northeast’ was highlighted.
Moreover the burning issues like insurgency, illegal foreigners, border conflicts etc were also discussed.
The IFWJ delegates led by its national president K. Vikram Rao and secretary general Parmanand Pandey assured that they would go back to their respective working places with the new understandings of the alienated region.

ITANAGAR, Mar 17: The five days workshop on examination preparation strategies for the students of Indira Gandhi Govt. College, Tezu conducted by Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti concluded today.
Sessions on various examination related topics and issues, such as concept of examination, concentration, memory power, importance of yoga for stress management, memory game etc were conducted by resource person Ashoke Atate, Nagar Sangathak, Vivekananda Kendra, Tezu in the workshop which was titled “Pariksha De Haste Haste”.

ITANAGAR, Mar 17: Two days training on inventory management for DMS/DHS store keeper of all the districts was held at Administrative Training Institute, Naharlagun organized by the State Health Society, Naharlagun.
Dr. T Taku, Nodal officer (Training) exhorted the trainees to reap maximum benefit out of the training and clear all their doubts by participating in the training.
“It is the responsibility of the staff to maintain the register and store properly,” he said.
Responding to the queries of the participants, Dr. Taku informed that district warehouse under RCH has been made operational in all the districts as per feasibility. He advised all to maintain the stock ledger of issue and receipt voucher properly to maintain transparency. Further, he encouraged the participants to intimate the DMO about the quantity of medicines expired and propose for disposal of the medicines.
Resource Person of the training Narender Jagra, Consultant (UNICEF) highlighted the objectives, purpose and components of logistic system. He opined that due to lack of training, there is a gap because of which supply chain management is not properly implemented. He hoped that the training equipped the participants with better Inventory Management.

ITANAGAR, Mar 17: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union Capital Complex Unit has written to Director NERIST requesting him not to close the approach road leading towards Nyokum colony.

National Water and Sanitation Awareness Week launched

Workshop on Mission Indradhanush held
TEZU, Mar 17: District Workshop on Mission Indradhanush was organized at Deputy Commissioner office here today by the District Health Department, Tezu.
Mission Indradhanush aims to provide immunization to all the unvaccinated or partially vaccinated (drop outs and left outs) children by 2020.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Dr. B.M. Mishra advocated for systematic arrangements of the immunization programmes for intensive immunization in the district. Not a single child in the district should be left out, he said.
He assured all support to achieve 100 per cent immunization coverage in the district and assured to personally monitor Routine Immunization programmes.

YUPIA, Mar 17: Papum Pare District, Deputy Commissioner Tai Kaye launched the North Eastern District Resources Plan (NEDRP) Portal today in presence of the heads of the various line departments of Papum Pare District.
The DC requested all head of departments to make use of data from the portal on regular basis for the benefit of District. He also requested North East Space Applications Centre (NESAC) team to update the portal on regular interval and assured of full cooperation and support from district administration for its successful implementation. World Consumer Rights Day observed
PASIGHAT, Mar 17: To mark the observation of World Consumer Rights Day, the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, East Siang district unit organized an awareness campaign at DIET Hall here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, K P Tago, Asstt. Controller, LM & CA said that world consumer rights day is being observed every year worldwide to promote the basic rights of consumers. The Consumers Protection Act, 1986, enacted in India for the protection of consumers, has given six rights to consumers which is to be exercised, he said.
Talking about the theme of the celebration “Healthy Diets”, he said that most of the food items we found in market today are adulterated in some or other way for which we need to be careful. Citing example of metanil yellow (for varnishing the wooden furniture) which is also being used for colouring sweets, he said this colour which is considered as highly carcinogenic is popularly known as ‘sweet colour’ by the sweet makers. As our health is what we eat, one should be careful in selection of food items, he suggested.
While narrating some of the local problems in the state, he said that irresponsible attitude of consumers who do not show slightest resistance towards fraudulent practices in market like use of tola in gold trade, selling of rice in volume with oil container (tina system), over pricing, adulteration of food etc, encourage the ill practices. Therefore, he said, consumer movement is gaining momentum in the state.
O. Tabing, Principal DIET, Pasighat while appreciating Legal Metrology team for presenting various consumer interest topics along with practical demonstrations, appealed people to fight against unscrupulous trade practices which not only make hard earn money go to waste but also harass consumers.
While discouraging ‘tina system’, as it is not a proper instrument for use in selling of rice, he asked participants to use the knowledge that was learnt from the camp so that they are not cheated any more in making purchase of day to day requirements. YACHULI, Mar 17: Consumer Awareness Campaign under the theme “Consumer & traders; fostering and strengthening trust” was organized at the office of ADC Yachuli recently by the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Ziro.
The ADC appealed to all the general consumers to avail Rights provided in the Consumer Protection Act 1986 and assured to depute a Circle Officer or an executive magistrate to inspect and check the unscrupulous business practices.
Zilla Parishad Member Joram Yania, appealed every citizen to support and cooperate to foster the consumer protection movement to protect and promote the interest of common consumers and stressed that as consumers we have to be more responsible in exercising our rights. She appealed to the Department of Food & Civil Supplies to instruct every Fair Price Shop owner to authenticate the weights and measure from the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs for ascertaining accuracy of weights in every transaction of essential commodities.
She resented the selling of Rice in bags at F.P.Shops without weighing through verified weights and measures. She was appalled as to why these Fair Price shop including wholesale nominees are allowed to run their business without complying with the mandatory possession of Certified Weights and Measures in their premises. She requested the officer of the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs to organize more such programme in various areas, schools and colleges.

Dear Editor,
The article "An Eye for an Eye" published on March 11, 2015 and its criticism by Sh. Santosh Kaur from New Delhi published on March 14, 2015 edition are prime examples of insensitive public discourse.
Firstly, it is wrong to call the Dimapur lynching episode as 'racial attacks' or
'reverse racism'. It was manifestation of public anger towards the alleged crime
of rape which has only grown at an alarming rate both in the Region and in the Country.
Public lynching of criminals is, sadly, a regular feature in India including the
North Eastern States. Public anger is manifestation of outburst of public displeasure
and frustration against State’s failure in ensuring public safety and maintaining
law and order. Instead of discussing the case of alleged rape, our entire attention
has only been about the lynching. Further, the Article gave the discourse a wrong
direction by imputing that such public outcry and anger was inevitable since 'outsiders'
outnumbered the native tribes in business, trade etc. causing unemployment among
the local youths and thus causing socio-
Understandably, people like Santosh Kaur see 'racial' overtone in the article. However, it is immature and insensitive to play the game of "tu tu main main" over a pressing issue like racial discrimination in India. No form of racism is 'worse' than the other. We can recall that the people of North East India never resorted to violence as a response to numerous cases of racial discrimination faced by them in other parts of India including deaths and rapes. Yes, anger and criticism of the system has been at its highest decibels and rightly so. People from other parts of India rather attack people from the North East Region even for acts committed by militants/insurgents and worse, even on the basis of rumour (remember killings of Rohingyas in Myanmar (remember the mass exodus of North Eastern people from various parts of the Country?).
Unless we are mature as a society and a nation to realize and fight such evils including racism, mob violence, crime against women etc. India will continue to struggle to find its rightful place in the world. And unless we are responsible as a citizen especially powerful and responsible professionals like journalist, and stop being insensitive in our public discourse, we will suffer in the hands of social miscreants because many of them are, intentionally or unintentionally, our own creation.

Unique working style of Ziro Post Office
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of Director postal service Arunachal Pradesh division towards unique working style of Ziro Post office.
One fine morning at around 10:15, a call came to my mobile from a landline number. From other side a person introduced himself to be the staff of Ziro post office. The staff told me that my parcel have arrived and asked me to pick up from post office.
I politely enquired to him that why do you not deliver to the address written in the parcel instead of asking the customer to come to the post office. At this he said that I have no motor vehicle so I can’t come. I replied that my address is less than 5 minutes foot walk from post office. After hearing my reply he gave me another excuse that he actually went to my address but could not locate my government quarter.
Then gradually his voice become louder and he revealed that this is way of functioning of Ziro post office, customer themselves pick up the parcel.
Thank God that my mobile number was written in the parcel at least I got the information of arrival of my parcel. But by chance if somebody forgets to write phone number in the parcel, then parcel would never reach to owner if such is working style of Indian post.
So far as I know Indian post deliver all the mail and parcel to the mailing address and the post man is not entitled to motor vehicle. And most importantly customers are not asked to pick up the mail and parcel from the post office.
After paying all the required tariff and charges, parcel should be delivered to the mailing address. If department is unable to ship the parcel up to mailing address, tariff should be charged unto post office only not unto delivery address

Clarification
Dear Editor,
This is with reference to the news item entitled “ASU for indoor stadium at Subansiri Stadium” published in the March 16 edition of your daily. This is a confusing press release by the Apatani Students Union (ASU). They have appealed to the department to start construction of “indoor stadium” at the Subansiri Stadium. I think they must be referring to the football stadium, since no indoor stadium is under construction at Ziro at present. I am writing this to clarify because they have mentioned the meeting of 4th February, 2015 with me.
Actually, we had two rounds of coordination meeting with the Panchayat leaders, senior officers and NGO representatives to discuss about the site of the football stadium. The first meeting was on 27th January, 2015. During that meeting, I clearly explained that Biirii is available for the football stadium and the Subansiri Stadium should be left for a multipurpose stadium in the future. Since some members were against the idea of shifting, a second meeting was scheduled for February 4, 2015.
It was in the second meeting on 4th February, 2015 a committee to work on the site of the football stadium was constituted. The committee was asked to give a decision by February 20, 2015. Since the department did not hear anything from the committee by then, the works have been started in the Subansiri Stadium.
I want to make it clear that the alternate site for the football stadium was available at Biirii. But since some of our people were not interested in shifting the site, the works have already been started in the Subansiri Stadium. Therefore, I join our student body in their appeal not to interfere in the construction of the stadium. I also appeal to every concerned citizen, especially the members of ASU, to help me ensure that quality is maintained and that the football stadium is completed in time.
